Why does the Nile River not flood the cities of modern day Egypt?

b) Because of the Aswan Dam
c) Because the river dried up around one hundred years ago
d) Because the cities are built on high ground and the building are on stilts
e) It still floods many cities every year

Answers

b) Because of the Aswan Dam. Modern-day Egypt does not experience Nile River floods due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam, but this has contributed to salinization of the soil, affecting agriculture.

The Nile River does not flood the cities of modern-day Egypt primarily because of the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Completed in 1968, the dam has effectively controlled the seasonal flooding that was once an integral part of Egypt's agricultural and social landscape. However, the prevention of these floods has led to unintended consequences, such as salinization of the soil due to the absence of the natural flushing of salts by the floodwaters. This growing issue of soil quality reduction affects the productivity of Egypt's agriculture, a sector that supports a significant proportion of the population.

Other peoples' reading abilities do have an impact on the country's economy. Here are some examples:

1. Health. People that can read seek more medical health in a proactive way rather then high cost emergency visits. They know more about contraceptive which makes a difference in their reproductive behavior. Illiteracy in low income families leads to  dependence on welfare, which is a burden on the state.

2. Prisons. 3 of 5 inmates in the United States can not read. The taxpayer has to pay for the upkeep of the prisoners, the maintenance of the prison facilities and the wages for the people working there.

3. Jobs. People with limited or non reading  abilities have problems finding well paying job. This reduces their mobility in the labor market and makes them more prone to depend on additional, state paid  help ( food stamps, welfare, charities) in order to care for their basic needs.

The economy is experiencing inflation and the unemployment rate has dropped from 4.2% to 2.4%. If the government wanted to influence the economy, which tool of fiscal policy should the government implement?

Answers

The use of government spending and tax policies to impact economic circumstances is referred to as fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is claimed that governments could regulate economic activity and stabilize the business cycle.

Contractionary fiscal policy is the tool that should be implemented by the government.

The reasons to implement contractionary fiscal policy tool:
If the economy is facing inflation and unemployment rates aren't particularly high, the government should enact austerity measures, which, while increasing unemployment, will dramatically reduce inflation.

Austerity, on the other hand, can be dangerous since it might have a detrimental influence on the economy by slashing spending in key areas.

Contractionary fiscal policy must be implemented by the government.

It means that fiscal policy must be used to reduce aggregate demand.

The tools mechanism:
Inflation reduction is the purpose of contractionary fiscal policy. As a result, the tools would be a reduction in government spending and/or a tax rise.
The contractionary fiscal policy keeps the unemployment rate from falling below optimal levels, keeping it at "full employment," which is when unemployment reaches its lowest point without causing inflation, according to economists.

Therefore, there is a stable drop in unemployment and inflation rates from 4.2% to 2.4% as a sign to use contractionary fiscal polity.

https://brainly.com/question/19334696

Final answer:

To tackle inflation with low unemployment, the government could implement a contractionary fiscal policy by increasing taxes or cutting government spending, to reduce aggregate demand and control inflation without significantly impacting employment.

Explanation:

Given that the unemployment rate has dropped significantly and the economy is experiencing inflation, the government should consider implementing a contractionary fiscal policy. This policy involves either increasing taxes or reducing government spending, both of which can help shift the aggregate demand (AD) to the left. The shift from ADi to ADf would apply downward pressure on the price level, helping to control inflation while maintaining full employment. In episodes of high inflation, similar measures have been taken historically, such as the Federal Reserve implementing contractionary monetary policy to raise interest rates and curb inflation. However, fiscal policy should be carefully managed to avoid causing a severe decrease in output or a significant increase in unemployment.

A cruel and unjust ruler is often known as a __________.

Answers

Answer:

Tyrant

Explanation:

Etymologically, the word tyrant means an illegitimate ruler who uses oppressive powers. A Tyrant is a ruler who is unjust and cruel towards his subjects. He uses brutal and harsh methods to govern the state and the people. They use powers over the people. This results in the victimization of the subjects and suppression of their desires and needs.

Final answer:

A cruel and unjust ruler is often referred to as a tyrant, a term exemplified by historically oppressive figures such as Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler, and described in both historical references and literary works.

Explanation:

A cruel and unjust ruler is often known as a tyrant. Throughout history, the term has been used to describe rulers who wield absolute power in a harsh and oppressive manner. Examples of tyrants include notorious figures such as Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Pol Pot, and Robert Mugabe, who were known for leading through fear, intimidation, and extreme measures against their own people.

The historical figure Caligula is another example of a ruler who, after a severe illness, allegedly became a despotic tyrant, infamous for his cruelty, megalomania, and extravagant spending purely on self-glorification.

Moreover, in literary expressions and historical references, such rulers are depicted vividly. For instance, oppressive actions by a ruler and the resultant suffering of the people and the state have been poetically described in Shelley's works, highlighting the detachment and indifference of such rulers towards the plight of their subjects.

This term is not only confined to historical or infamous leaders; it can also apply to any ruler or person in authority who abuses power and acts without regard for justice or the welfare of their subjects, as illustrated in personal narratives like that of Mr. Severe in Frederick Douglass's memoirs.

Which effect did Marco Polo’s The Travels of Marco Polo have on East Asia and Southeast Asia?

Answers

Marco Polo's 'The Travels of Marco Polo' had a significant cultural impact, arousing European curiosity about East Asia and Southeast Asia, inspiring future explorations, and fostering trade and cultural exchange between the two regions.

The effect of Marco Polo's The Travels of Marco Polo on East Asia and Southeast Asia was more cultural and indirect, as his detailed accounts of the wealth and splendor of the East, including descriptions of paper money, coal, and Chinese form of pasta, piqued the curiosity of Europeans. Marco Polo's travelogue didn't bring immediate physical changes to East Asia and Southeast Asia but rather served to open the minds of Europeans to the existence and possibilities of trade with the distant and, until then, mysterious Eastern world. Additionally, Polo's notes on Mongol governance under Kublai Khan demonstrated a far-reaching and effectively administered empire, contrasting with the fractured political landscape of Europe during the same period.

His influence on Europe was profound; his tales inspired travellers and adventurers, like Christopher Columbus, to undertake their own voyages, which eventually led to the Age of Exploration. This exploration fervor stoked European interests in East Asia, eventually resulting in increased trade and cultural exchanges. More importantly, Polo's work contributed to the breakdown of the psychological barrier between the 'known' Western world and the 'mysterious' East, laying the groundwork for an interconnected global economy and cross-cultural communication.
