Answer:

10. I rose my hand in class for the first time

11. one after another

12.Latisha had joined the photography club

Answer 2

10. A: I rose my hand in class for the first time.

The verb “rise” is an intransitive verb, meaning that it is a verb not taking a direct object (it is complete without it). This sentence has the verb “rose” taking the direct object “my hand,” which it's grammatically incorrect: you can't rise something, like your hand.

11. A: One after another

The author intended the books to be read sequentially.

“Sequentially” means “in a set order” or “following in sequence,” therefore, the author intended the books to be read one after another.

12. A: Latisha had joined the photography club.

The past perfect tense is a verbal tense formed by the auxiliary verb “have” in past, that is, “had” and the past participle form of a verb. This sentence has those characteristics: it consists of the auxiliary “had” + “joined” (the past participle of the verb “join”).

how does popular opinion shape political policies? Mccarthyism

Answers

Answer:

Political policies are indirectly a product of the public opinion. Any democracy elects the nominees as a representative who would cater to their needs and who work for a better and more developed society and living conditions. The political parties are there to formulate and execute public policies that would govern the people and the country itself. The public opinion is the one ingredient that is crucial to shape these policies. For instance, an educational policy will highly depend on the present need and the condition of the education system, the analysis of which would be closer to the reality only if based on public opinion. And hence political policies are shaped by popular opinions.

McCarthyism illustrated how strong public fears can shape political actions and policies, leading to widespread investigations and persecutions during the Cold War.

McCarthyism was a period during the Cold War when there was a widespread fear of communism, leading to aggressive investigations and questioning of suspected communists in the United States.

This era showcased how popular opinion can shape political policies and actions. During this time, American society was gripped by a strong anticommunist sentiment, which significantly influenced politicians and led to the creation of policies that targeted and persecuted individuals alleged to have communistic ties.Overall, public opinion plays a significant role in shaping political policies when it is strong and clearly expressed.

What is your own definition of heresy

Answers

Answer:

An opinion that is different from a traditional belief

Heresy in historical context generally refers to the holding of beliefs or opinions that deviate from established doctrines, especially in reference to religious practices and dogma. A heretic is someone who, in the eyes of a religious institution, opposes or rejects the accepted norms and beliefs of that religion. Heresy can pertain to an array of contrarian viewpoints relative to spiritual, doctrinal, or ecclesiastical matters.

The term heresy has its origins in religious discourse but can be expanded to any ideological context. Traditionally, it has been used within Christianity to describe the act of challenging established church doctrines. Authoritative religious bodies throughout history have sometimes regarded heresy as a serious offense, punishable by excommunication or even death. The significance of heresy lies not only in the specific beliefs it entails but also in its potential to cause schisms and reformations within religious communities. While the definition and ramifications of heresy have evolved over time, it remains a powerful concept reflective of the tensions between individual thought and institutional doctrine.

The Book of Dragons Chapter III The Deliverers of Their Country, an excerpt By E. Nesbit It all began with Effie's getting something in her eye. It hurt very much indeed, and it felt something like a red-hot spark—only it seemed to have legs as well, and wings like a fly. Effie rubbed and cried—not real crying, but the kind your eye does all by itself without your being miserable inside your mind—and then she went to her father to have the thing in her eye taken out. Effie's father was a doctor, so of course he knew how to take things out of eyes. When he had gotten the thing out, he said: "This is very curious." Effie had often got things in her eye before, and her father had always seemed to think it was natural—rather tiresome and naughty perhaps, but still natural. He had never before thought it curious. Effie stood holding her handkerchief to her eye, and said: "I don't believe it's out." People always say this when they have had something in their eyes. "Oh, yes—it's out," said the doctor. "Here it is, on the brush. This is very interesting." Effie had never heard her father say that about anything that she had any share in. She said: "What?" The doctor carried the brush very carefully across the room, and held the point of it under his microscope—then he twisted the brass screws of the microscope, and looked through the top with one eye. "Dear me," he said. "Dear, dear me! Four well-developed limbs; a long caudal appendage; five toes, unequal in lengths, almost like one of the Lacertidae, yet there are traces of wings." The creature under his eye wriggled a little in the castor oil, and he went on: "Yes; a bat-like wing. A new specimen, undoubtedly. Effie, run round to the professor and ask him to be kind enough to step in for a few minutes." "You might give me sixpence, Daddy," said Effie, "because I did bring you the new specimen. I took great care of it inside my eye, and my eye does hurt." The doctor was so pleased with the new specimen that he gave Effie a shilling, and presently the professor stepped round. He stayed to lunch, and he and the doctor quarreled very happily all the afternoon about the name and the family of the thing that had come out of Effie's eye. But at teatime another thing happened. Effie's brother Harry fished something out of his tea, which he thought at first was an earwig. He was just getting ready to drop it on the floor, and end its life in the usual way, when it shook itself in the spoon—spread two wet wings, and flopped onto the tablecloth. There it sat, stroking itself with its feet and stretching its wings, and Harry said: "Why, it's a tiny newt!" The professor leaned forward before the doctor could say a word. "I'll give you half a crown for it, Harry, my lad," he said, speaking very fast; and then he picked it up carefully on his handkerchief. "It is a new specimen," he said, "and finer than yours, Doctor." It was a tiny lizard, about half an inch long—with scales and wings. So now the doctor and the professor each had a specimen, and they were both very pleased. But before long these specimens began to seem less valuable. For the next morning, when the knife-boy was cleaning the doctor's boots, he suddenly dropped the brushes and the boot and the blacking, and screamed out that he was burnt. And from inside the boot came crawling a lizard as big as a kitten, with large, shiny wings. "Why," said Effie, "I know what it is. It is a dragon like the one St. George killed." And Effie was right. That afternoon Towser was bitten in the garden by a dragon about the size of a rabbit, which he had tried to chase, and the next morning all the papers were full of the wonderful "winged lizards" that were appearing all over the country. The papers would not call them dragons, because, of course, no one believes in dragons nowadays—and at any rate the papers were not going to be so silly as to believe in fairy stories. At first there were only a few, but in a week or two the country was simply running alive with dragons of all sizes, and in the air you could sometimes see them as thick as a swarm of bees. They all looked alike except as to size. They were green with scales, and they had four legs and a long tail and great wings like bats' wings, only the wings were a pale, half-transparent yellow, like the gear-boxes on bicycles. Which words from the story suggest something mysterious is about to happen? Be sure to use details from the text to support your answer.

Answers

Final answer:

Words used in the story that suggest a mysterious event include 'very curious', 'very interesting', and descriptions of the creature's physical features, indicating it is not ordinary. The proliferation of creatures across the country as 'running alive with dragons' sets the stage for the unfolding mystery.

Explanation:

Words from the excerpt of The Book of Dragons Chapter III The Deliverers of Their Country by E. Nesbit suggesting that something mysterious is about to happen include the father finding the object from Effie's eye very curious and very interesting, describing the object with well-developed limbs, a long caudal appendage, and bat-like wings. These descriptions hint at the unusual and fantastical nature of the creature, which is not typical of an ordinary irritant found in one's eye. Additionally, when Effie's situation leads to the discovery of the same creatures in other parts of the country, and their proliferation is described as running alive with dragons of all sizes, it clearly signals a mysterious and fantastical event unfolding.

If I had intended to buy the car. Is it incomplete, simple or complete, simple or simple, complex or complete, complex or incomplete

Answers

Answer:

This is an incomplete sentence.

Explanation:

Complete sentence has both subject and predicate. Subject is the person who is performing the action and predicate usually contains the verb and the rest part of the sentence. It has complete meaning or makes sense. Incomplete sentence would have either of the two missing.

The given phrase "If I had intended to buy the car" is an incomplete sentence. There should be a second part or predicate of the sentence as well. For example: what would have happened or what would be done, "If I had intended to buy the car". It only mentions the subject part of the sentence.

The sentence "If I had intended to buy the car" is incomplete because it is a dependent clause that requires an independent clause to form a complete, complex sentence.

The sentence "If I had intended to buy the car" is a dependent clause because it cannot stand alone as a complete thought. It raises the question of what would follow if this condition were true, suggesting it is part of a larger conditional sentence or a complex sentence. The sentence is therefore incomplete on its own; it requires an independent clause to form a complete, complex sentence.

For example, a complete sentence could be: "If I had intended to buy the car, I would have saved more money." Here, the dependent clause is followed by an independent clause, making a complex sentence that expresses a complete thought.

Understanding the difference between complete and incomplete sentences is crucial in writing and communication. Complex sentences like the one in the example can convey conditions and outcomes, which are necessary for nuanced discussions or written narratives.

Based on the provided dialogue, we can infer that Abongo's personality is one that values his own humanity and identity. He seems to be a character with a strong sense of self, who does not appreciate being used as a symbol if it means diminishing his humanity. Abongo's upright posture in reaction to the conversation about Conrad suggests a sense of pride and possibly a defensive stance in the face of an argument that he perceives as reductive of his identity.

Speaks of the world's need of a Savior. Describes the physical mutilation that would occur at the time of the Crucifixion. Answers

Final answer:

Isaiah 53:4-5, 7-8, 10 is interpreted by Christians to prophesy about Jesus Christ's sacrifice for humanity's sins, describing an innocent figure who does not defend himself and through whose suffering God's purposes are fulfilled.

Explanation:

Isaiah 53:4-5, 7-8, 10 provides a prophetic description often interpreted by Christians as referring to Jesus Christ and the events of the Crucifixion. These verses describe someone who is wounded because of transgressions, bearing the iniquities of others, and not defending himself like a lamb led to the slaughter.

Furthermore, it is said that it pleased the Lord to crush him as an offering for sin, suggesting an atonement that would have meaningful consequences - that God would ultimately be satisfied.

This aligns with the Christian belief that Jesus was an innocent sacrifice for humanity's sins, bringing spiritual healing through his suffering and death. The depiction also aligns with the Gospel accounts wherein Jesus did not resist his accusers at his trial.

The Locket

I watched people pass by the store window. I wished they would come in. No one had entered the store all the day. I drummed my fingers on the counter, trying to ease my boredom. Suddenly, a ding was heard at the front the store. Immediately, I stood up and straightened my suit and tie.
"Welcome to World Antiquities!" I exclaimed with a slight bow. "How may I be at your service?"
The tiny elderly lady did not acknowledge me but began to look around the store. Her gaze fell upon a rusty locket behind a glass case. She pointed and stared at me. I frowned. That locket, by far, was the ugliest object that we had in the store.
"Madam, there are more fine-looking lockets in this case here," I said, pointing to the case on her right.
The lady once again pointed at the locket and stared directly into my eyes. I quickly fumbled for the keys in my pocket and unlocked the case. I pulled the locket out and set it on a velvet display. The chain and locket were a dirty bronze color instead of silver. Why would anyone want this locket? I thought.
Carefully laying the locket in the palm of her hand, the lady rubbed the locket with her index finger. A tear formed in the corner of her eye.
"Madam, is everything all right?" I asked nervously.
The lady dabbed her eye with her antique handkerchief and merely nodded in my direction. Her voice cracked when she said, "Yes. Yes, everything is just fine. I have been looking for this locket for over 60 years. I lost it the first year I was married. I was so heartbroken," the lady said.
I smiled and quickly wrapped up the locket in tissue paper. I handed the locket to the lady. She took out her pocketbook, but I just shook my head. "There is no need for money. This locket rightfully belongs to you," I said. The lady took the locket, shook my hand, and walked out of the door.

A.
I tried to keep each piece in the store in excellent condition. However, the locket proved to be the most difficult piece to clean.
B.
"The locket was the first present my husband ever gave to me," the old lady said quietly. She looked at the locket affectionately.
C.
The lady carefully looked at each of the cases in the front of the store until something made her stop. I strolled up to the glass case and wondered what could have caught her eye.

I wish I had more moments like that, I thought. I sat down and began to drum my fingers on the counter once again.' This option concludes the story well by bringing it full circle. It starts and ends with the narrator behind the counter, implying a continuity of his life at the store, while also encapsulating the extraordinary experience he just had with the old lady and the locket.

What is the meaning of the poem “The wind’s Visit” by Emily Dickinson

Answers

Answer:

"The Wind's Visit" is a beautiful poem by Emily Dickinson.

Explanation:

Emily Dickinson uses figurative language in her beautiful poem "The Wind's Visit". The speaker in the poem actually enjoys the unexpected visit from the wind and she welcomes it in her house. She compares the sound of the wind to a tap of a tired man. Also, thinks that its sound is like that of a humming bird. She knew that the wind won't stay there for long so, ti did not offer it a chair to sit. So, she also feels sad after the wind goes back.

Final answer:

The poem likely delves into the emotional influence of nature, with the wind as an antagonist and daffodils personified to show resilience. It suggests that harsh natural elements can lead to growth and healing.

Explanation:

The poem “The wind’s Visit”, which may actually refer to multiple works ascribed to Emily Dickinson's themes around the wind and weather, often embodies profound emotional states and the transformative impact of nature.

In this context, it can be inferred that the poem likely explores the theme of nature's power over human emotion and the dichotomy between adversarial and harmonious interactions with the natural environment.

Through the poem, characterizing the wind as antagonist could signify the challenges and hardships one faces, while empathy with the personified daffodils that dance despite the wind suggests resilience and joy in adversity.

The poem's essence captures how natural elements, perceived as bleak or threatening, can ultimately lead to personal growth and emotional healing as we align ourselves with their rhythm, similar to Wordsworth's depictions of nature and its effect on the human spirit.
