How did the Supreme Court support civil rights during the 1970’s?

Answers

Answer 1

Oh I actually did a paper on this! The Supreme Court's main contribution to supporting the civil rights movement was the acts they passed in that area. Although the 60's had more to do with the rights of everyone in general, the 70's focused more on the education system. The busing act was extremely important because it allowed counties to change county guidelines to promote racial integration in public schools. The high school I graduated from was actually the first in my state and that's what I researched!  This case is known as Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, 402 U.S. 1 (1971) if you want more information. Gates v. Collier also ended legal racial segregation in prisons! Griggs v. Duke made it illegal to use intelligence tests as a requirement for African-Americans to get positions and Lau v. Nicolas made it unconstitutional for schools not to provide English translations to Chinese-speaking students.

For what reason does L. Maria child not sympathize with John brown

Answers

After John Brown's arrest for raiding the Harper’s Ferry, on the 26th of October, 1859, Maria Child wrote him a letter. In the letter she was very clear that she supported Brown's desire free the slaves, but believed that the choices and actions he chose were unnecessary. His good intentions were noble, but Child was really saddened by his cruelty. In the end, Lydia ended up sympathizing with Brown and seeing him as an important figure to the cause.

This excerpt from the Maria's letter makes this point very clear:

"[...] I cannot sympathize with the method you chose to advance the cause of freedom. But I honor your generous intentions–I admire your courage, moral and physical. [...]"

She didn't sympathize with John Brown because of the cruelty in his actions. She made that clear in the letters she wrote for him. She sided with him for his good intentions but didn't like the course of action he chose. John Brown was known for defending African-American rights and his use of violence against racism and slavery in the decade before the Civil War. He was considered by pro-slavery Southerners as "a black-hearted villain".

On May 24, 1854, Brown led his sons in a raid on pro-slavery settlers. He dragged his targets out of their homes in the middle of the night and cut them with swords. Brown and his group killed five pro-slavery men and it was later known  as the Pottawatomie Massacre.

That is why L. Maria Child didn't sympathize with the way he acted.

Let’s begin with some easy Sports & Leisure: Which island nation invented the sport of golf as we now know it?

Answers

The sport of golf was first developed, established and played in the island nation of Scotland, and afterwards spread to the rest of the world by Scotts. The exact origins of golf are unclear, but the most accepted theory states that its origins date from the 15th century. Despite that, there were not any written rules until 1744, known today as “13 Articles”, drafted by The Gentlemen Golfers of Leith.

The correct answer is Scotland.

Golf dates back to the time of Julius Cesar, the game consisted then of striking a ball full of feathers with a tree branch. It can  also be traced back to the Song Dynasty in China.

The modern game of golf originated in Scotland in the year 1457.  The first written record of golf was the banning of it by King James II of Scotland, because it distracted the military from training. King James IV lifted the ban in 1502 when he became a golfer himself. In 1764, the standard, 18-hole golf course was created at Saint Andrews.

Golf became a pastime in Great Britain in the 17th century. The first British Open, a tournament played till today, took place in 1860.

The word gold derives from the Scots word goulf meaning to 'strike or to cuff'.

Additionally, the FDA also warns the public about harmful food, issuing warnings when there is an outbreak of a foodborne illness, advising consumers which foods to avoid, and providing guidance on what to do if they get sick.

Which factor contributed to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II?

(1) labor shortage during the war
(2) influence of racial prejudice
(3) increase of terrorist activities on the West Coast
(4) fear of loss of jobs to Japanese workers

Answers

Racial prejudice fueled the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II due to fears of disloyalty, despite no evidence of wrongdoing among the internees. Hence, the correct answer is 22.

Racial prejudice played a significant role in the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Under Executive Order 9066, over 110,000 Japanese and Japanese Americans were forcibly relocated to internment camps, primarily based on their ethnicity.

Despite there being no evidence of disloyalty among the internees, fears of sabotage, racial discrimination, and war hysteria led to this grave injustice against Japanese-descended individuals.

While some German and Italian nationals were also interned, the policies disproportionately targeted Japanese Americans and were later recognized as unjust, leading to a formal apology and reparations by President Reagan in 1988.

Which of these is an example of the line marked "Artificial Price"? (4 points)
Farm subsidies

Market price

Minimum wage

Rent controls

Answers

The correct answer is "Rent controls".

When the government establishes price controls, the artificial price phenomenon occurs because the price is determined arbitrarily without being based on the dynamic interaction between Supply and Demand.

A particular case of price controls is the control of rental prices.

In the event that the artificial price is below the market price, as in the chart, there would be an excess of Demand with respect to the Offer and this would discourage the owners to put their properties for rent.

Objections to the other options:

The market price is that obtained from the interaction between supply and demand. In agricultural subsidies, the market price is respected, but the State subsidizes the Offer to guarantee that the producer does not lose part of its benefits. The minimum wage establishes a price that, if higher than the market price, employers are discouraged from hiring workers at that price and unemployment is generated.

Renaissance is the name given in the nineteenth century to a broad cultural movement that occurred in Western Europe during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. It was a period of transition between the Middle Ages and the beginnings of the Modern Age. Its main exponents are in the field of arts, although there was also a renewal in science, both natural and human. The city of Florence, in Italy, was the birthplace and development of this movement, which later spread throughout Europe.

The Renaissance was the result of the dissemination of the ideas of humanism, which determined a new conception of man and the world. The term "Renaissance" was used claiming certain elements of classical Greek and Roman culture, and was originally applied as a return to the values of Greco-Roman culture and the free contemplation of nature after centuries of predominance of a more rigid type of mentality and dogmatic established in medieval Europe. In this new stage, a new way of seeing the world and the human being was proposed, with new approaches in the fields of arts, politics, philosophy and sciences, replacing medieval theocentrism with anthropocentrism.

The current concept of Renaissance (from the French Renaissance) was formulated in the mid-nineteenth century by the French historian Jules Michelet, in his work Renaissance et Réforme, published in 1855. For the first time, Michelet used the term in the sense of a historical period , which would range from the discovery of America to Galileo, and considered it more important for its scientific developments than for art or culture

For its part, the sixteenth century would be marked by the great geographical discoveries initiated with the arrival of Columbus to America in 1492 (establishment of the route of the Cape by Vasco da Gama, 1498, return to the world of Magallanes, 1519-1521, disembarkation of Cortes in Mexico, 1519, conquest of Peru by Pizarro, 1530-1533), as well as the breakdown of Christian unity caused by the Protestant Reformation of Martin Luther (1520), the development of science and technology (Nova Scientia de Tartaglia, 1538, De revolutionibus of Copernicus, 1543, Anatomy of Vesalius, 1543) and the expansion of humanism (Erasmus of Rotterdam, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Ludovico Ariosto, Tomás Moro, Juan Luis Vives, François Rabelais).

Final answer:

Andreas Vesalius, Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, Nicolaus Copernicus, René Descartes, Robert Boyle, and William Harvey were influential figures in the Renaissance and Scientific Revolution. Their contributions to science, astronomy, anatomy, and philosophy shaped a new empirical and rational worldview.

Explanation:

Andreas Vesalius, Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, Nicolaus Copernicus, René Descartes, Robert Boyle, and William Harvey. These figures played crucial roles in shaping the new worldview of their time. Vesalius contributed to the field of anatomy, Galileo pioneered the use of the telescope and made significant astronomical discoveries, Newton developed the laws of gravity and motion.

Copernicus challenged the geocentric model with his heliocentric model, Descartes emphasized the importance of reason and rational thinking, Boyle laid the groundwork for modern chemistry, and Harvey made breakthroughs in understanding the circulatory system. Their contributions to science, astronomy, anatomy, and philosophy transformed how people perceived the world and led to a shift towards a more empirical and rational worldview.
