Ethos
Be sure that in your response you clearly discuss the elements of the rhetorical device you chose and explain how Gandhi uses it in his speech. Be sure to use examples from the text to support your claims.

Answers

Answer 1
I would say that Gandhi uses mainly pathos or an emotional connection to his audience in this new university speech. The main exception he seems to make is questioning why university education in British colonial India must be given in English which is a humiliation for Indians not to be able to receive higher education in their own language. This sentiment was echoed by a Mexican customs official who severely criticized me for trying to speak English to him when Spanish is the first language of his Country ( I had been reticent to try to speak Spanish as I had never spoken it before though I had studied it so thenceforth I tried to speak it and the ordinary Mexican people fellow travellers helped me a lot). In the following excerpt from Gandhi's speech he expresses the above feeling, " I wanted to say it is a matter of deep humiliation and shame for us that I am compelled this evening under the shadow of this great college, in this sacred city, to address my countrymen in a language that is foreign to me".

Answers

Monica got out of the car. She walked towards the house, cleaned her boots, and entered.

*probably not the best answer but good enough

When writing a narrative, it is important that we do not include too many unnecessary details. This is the case for several reasons. Too many details can prove confusing for the reader, as he or she will have to pay more attention to the story while trying to avoid getting lost in it. Moreover, too many unnecessary details can make the pace of a text too slow, which can make readers want to stop reading. A more effective paragraph, which would include less unnecessary details would be:

"Monica got out of her car and walked towards the house. She kicked the snow off her boots and entered."

Answer:

She questions why people fear and are submissive to the will to death, besides, she plans to run, jump and stay strong in order to face death.

Explanation:

To the dead in the graveyard underneath my window is a poem written by Adelaide Craspy. The poem portrays a profound reflection on death and how we are doomed to it.

The poet questions the reason, which leads people to submit to the will of death. That's because when death tells us to rest, we rest. We were afraid and accepted her will as a sovereign, when in fact we should run, jump, scream and fight against her, even if we don't have positive results and we pass away in the end.

Eli Wiesel was a victim of the Holocaust and she talks about the results of indifference with her own situation. He shows examples of those who knew and still did nothing to help them. And now he wants that the current generation should be not indifferent to situations around the world that are similar in nature.

This text is a profound reminder of the dangers of indifference in the face of atrocity. Indifference allowed for the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust to occur, where the world largely turned away as injustice and brutality unfolded. As highlighted by historical examples, bystanders—who do nothing in the wake of such evils—are part of the problem. On the contrary, some individuals displayed remarkable courage, kindness, and decency despite the dark times, inspiring us to practice altruism and ethical behavior. Final answer:

The question appears to be fictional, as no alien cylinders are known to have fallen to Earth historically. However, significant discoveries mentioned include Clyde Tombaugh's Pluto discovery, Giovanni Piazzi's asteroid Ceres, and W.E. Wendt's archaeological finds.

Explanation:

The student's question about who first discovered the alien cylinder that fell to Earth seems to be referencing a fictional event, perhaps from a novel or a movie, rather than a historical event. In historical discoveries relating to space, Clyde Tombaugh is known for discovering Pluto, the object in question during his search at the Lowell Observatory in 1930. Another notable figure, Giovanni Piazzi, discovered Ceres, the first asteroid, in 1801. For significant discoveries on Earth, the German archaeologist W.E. Wendt discovered fragments of an ancient stone drawing in a shelter in Namibia, which became an important find in archaeology. The finds mentioned provide real-world examples of significant discoveries, although they do not directly answer the fictional scenario presented in the question.

Cesar Chavez understood the plight of Mexican American farmworkers after all he had been one himself.

Answers

Cesar Chavez understood the plight of Mexican American farm workers. After all, he had been one; himself.

Answer:

After using colons and semicolons correctly the sentence looks like this:

Cesar Chavez understood the plight of Mexican American farmworkers; after all, he had been one himself.

Explanation:

Colons and semicolons are punctuation elements that are used to continuation or union among sentences. Colons in the first place show that something is a consequence of the previous sentence. In our case, we want to express that the fact that made Cesar Chavez understand the plight of Mexican American farmworkers was that he was one of them. So it is the element we provide as evidence, or example and therefore colon is employed. On the other hand, semicolons combine dependent and independent clauses, and the dependent clause here is that he for being one of the Mexican American Farmworkers knew the plight of them. It could be another sentence by itself but it provides more detail on the initial sentence to complement it.

Hello! You've done well so far by adding a simile (stanza 3, line 1) and repetition (stanza 1, beginning of lines 1 and 2). But I'd like to help add some personification to the poem with the first 2 lines since A. it rarely shows up and B. it's one of the most important factors towards a poem when creating something with such detail.

"The future winking at us wishing us good luck
as we wash away worries with ideas of us being stuck"

These two lines offer personification because we give the "future" a human attribute of winking and wishing luck towards a person. Also, Alliteration is included in both these lines which can be seen by the repetition of "w"'s makes it's way in the second half of the first line and the first half of the second line.

I want to add some repetition for the end since you started with repetition at the beginning since it'll bring your ideas together in a much neater way.

"My family still keeps it's traditional pride
My family will push on making one last stride."

You have the repetition in "my family" as you used above, and it explains the ending of the book with the family still being who are they, only they accomplished there goal by making one final action, which is making the move.

I hope these lines help and if you need any more help, feel free to ask!
