Sandhill Company purchased bonds with a face amount of $1200000 between interest payment dates. Sandhill purchased the bonds at 102, paid brokerage costs of $15800, and paid accrued interest for three months of $25800. The amount to record as the cost of this long-term investment in bonds is

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

$1,239,800

Explanation:

Face value - $1,200,000

Premium rate = 102/100

Brokerage costs = $15,800

Accrued interest for three months = $25,800

Cost of long term investment in the bond is recorded as

(1,200,000 * 102/100 )+ 15,800

1,224,000 +15,800 = 1,239,800

Please note that the accrued interest is expended in the income statement under interest and finance charges, therefore it is not capitalized as the cost of the long term investment.

Select all that apply: a. such policies might turn out to be too costly to enact on a widespread basis b. such policies have the potential to equalize society c. such policies will always benefit the less disadvantaged d. such policies might not show positive results

Answers

Final answer:

Open-mindedness is essential when enacting ladder of opportunity policies because they may be too costly, might not yield positive outcomes, and may not always benefit the less advantaged as intended.

Explanation:

Policies aimed at creating a ladder of opportunity should be approached with open-mindedness for several reasons. Firstly, such policies might turn out to be too costly to implement on a large scale. Secondly, while these policies aim to equalize society, it's important to acknowledge that they may not always show positive results, hence the need for a flexible and evaluative approach. Lastly, it's understood that while the intention is to benefit the less advantaged, not all initiatives will be beneficial or sustainable in the long term. Therefore, ongoing monitoring, adaptation, and evaluation are crucial.

The demand for caramel topping will decrease. The demand for caramel topping will increase. The demand curve for caramel topping will remain the same. The price of ice cream increases. The price of caramel topping decreases. The price of butterscotch topping increases.

Answers

Answer:

The price of ice cream increases - The demand for caramel topping will decrease

The price of caramel topping decreases - The demand curve for caramel topping will remain the same.

The price of butterscotch topping increases - The demand for caramel topping will increase.

Explanation:

If the price of icecream increases , it would become expensive to make them. So producers would reduce quantity supplied of ice cream. As a result of the reduced supply, there would be less demand for caramel toppings.

Caramel and butterscotch toppings are subsituites. If the price of butterscotch toppings increase, the demand for caramel toppings would increase.

If the price of caramel toppings reduce, the quantity supplied would fall. This would lead to a movement along the demand curve and not a shift of the demand curve.

What does it take for a consumer boycott to

Answers

The purpose of a boycott is to inflict some economic loss on the target, or to indicate a moral outrage, to try to compel the target to alter an objectionable behavior. Sometimes, a boycott can be a form of consumer activism, sometimes called moral purchasing.

A consumer boycott is avoiding the purchase of products from companies with unacceptable practices, whereas a buycott involves intentionally purchasing from companies with ethical practices. A successful consumer boycott or buycott requires substantial participation, clear objectives, and communication. These actions express values and can push for social change more directly than traditional political avenues.

A consumer boycott is a form of protest where individuals choose not to purchase goods or services from a specific company due to that entity's actions, policies, or practices deemed unacceptable or unethical. Conversely, a buycott is an intentional effort to support a company by purchasing its products because it engages in practices that align with the consumer's values or standards of responsible behavior. These strategies leverage consumer spending power to effect change and signal to companies that their practices are being scrutinized by the public.

The effectiveness of a boycott or a buycott lies in its ability to harm a company's financial bottom line or alternatively, to reward and encourage responsible business practices. A successful boycott requires widespread participation, clear objectives, effective communication to the public, and usually media coverage. To participate in such actions, individuals typically consider their values, the importance of the issue at hand, and their willingness to accept potential inconveniences or higher costs.

For instance, consumers might participate in a boycott against a clothing retailer over unethical labor practices, or engage in a buycott supporting companies that uphold fair labor standards, even if it means paying a premium. This form of consumer activism is seen as a direct way to influence companies and promote broader social change, often considered more immediate and tangible than traditional political actions such as contacting elected representatives.

You write one MBI July 139 call contract (equaling 100 shares) for a premium of $17. You hold the option until the expiration date, when MBI stock sells for $150 per share. You will realize a ______ on the investment.

Answers

Answer:

$600 loss

Explanation:

A call option is defined as a contract that exists between ba buyer and seller of a call option to exchange securities held at a particular price within a specific period.

To calculate the profit realised on the investment

Profit from call option= (150- 139) * 100

Profit from call option= $1,100

Profit from premium= 17 * 100

Profit from premium= $1,700

Profit on investment= Profit from call option - Profit from premium

Profit on investment = 1,100 - 1,700 = -$600

So there is a loss of $600

Answer: $600 profit

Explanation:

Call contract = $139

Number of shares = 100

Selling price per share = $150

Premium = $17

(Call contract - selling price) × number of shares

($139 - $150) × 100 = -$1100

Total premium = $17 × 100 = 1700

PROFIT / LOSS ON investment = - $1100 + $1700

= $600

OR

Short call profit = Min [0, ($139 - $150)(100)] + $1700 = $600

$600 profit

Complete question:

Larren Buffett is concerned after receiving her weekly paycheck. She believes that her deductions for Social Security, Medicare, and federal income tax withholding (FIT) may be incorrect. Larren is paid a salary of $4,100 weekly. She is married, claims 3 deductions, and prior to this payroll check, has total earnings of $128,245. What are the correct deductions for Social Security, Medicare, and FIT?Assume a rate of 6.2% on $118,500 for Social Security and 1.45% for Medicare

Answer:

Social Security $604.19

Medicare $59.45

FIT $230.70

Explanation:

Total earning = $128,245

Weekly salary= $4,100

Social security tax = ($128,245 - $118,500) × 0.062 = $604.19

Medicare tax = $4,100 × 1.45 = $59.45

Final answer:

Larren's Social Security, Medicare, and Federal Income Tax Withholding (FIT) should be $254.20, $59.45, and to be determined, respectively. The exact FIT deduction depends on multiple factors including income, filing status, and allowances, so an IRS calculator or professional guidance may be necessary.

Explanation:

The deductions for Social Security, Medicare, and Federal Income Tax Withholding (FIT) for Larren would be calculated based on her weekly salary of $4,100, her marital status, the number of deductions she claims, and her year-to-date earnings.

Social Security deductions are usually 6.2% of an employee's salary up to a maximum wage base limit. In 2022, this limit is $147,000. As Larren has already earned $128,245 and her weekly salary is $4,100, she would not exceed this limit. Therefore, her Social Security deduction would be 6.2% of $4,100, which is $254.20.

Medicare deductions are typically 1.45% of an employee's salary with no wage base limit. Therefore, Larren's Medicare deduction would be 1.45% of $4,100, which is $59.45.

FIT (Federal Income Tax) deductions depend on several factors including income, filing status, and the number of allowances claimed. These calculations can be complex and may require guidance from an income tax professional or use of the IRS withholding calculator.

It's important to note that these numbers might vary slightly based on the exact IRS tax tables used.

Finance lease accounting involves recognizing the leased asset and liability on the balance sheet. In this case, Wilson Foods Corporation leased a commercial food processor for five years with quarterly payments at 12% incremental borrowing rate.

Straight-line amortization means that Wilson records equal portions of the lease liability as an expense over the lease term. This ensures a consistent expense recognition pattern and reflects the asset's usage over time.

Depreciation and interest expenses play crucial roles in financial reporting, affecting the income statement and balance sheet by reflecting the reduction in asset value and the cost of borrowed funds, respectively.
