Answer 2

Answer:

A. Context clues

Explanation:

Archaic language can usually be deciphered through the use of context clues. The use of context clues is one of the best ways in which we can figure out what the meaning of a particular word is. Context clues allow us to infer the meaning of a word due to the words that surround it. This is a useful tool when we do not know a word and we do not have a dictionary at hand.

Which sentence is parallel? a) Louise will be swimming, biking and running for her triathlon this weekend. b) Louise will be swimming, then bike and run this weekend in her triathlon

Answers

Answer:

The correct answer is A. Louise will be swimming, biking and running for her triathlon this weekend.

Explanation:

A parallel sentence is a sentence that uses the same form of a word throughout. In the sentence above, all verbs are used in their future progressive tense: will be swimming, (will be) biking, (will be) running. Therefore, their form is the same, and thus the sentence is parallel.

Sentence B is incorrect because different forms of the verbs are used: will be swimming, bike, run - as you can see, they're not the same.

Answer:

The words in this excerpt that support the idea that the husband was very devoted to his wife are:  A.a man who aimed to please his pregnant wife.

Explanation:

The excerpt we are studying here belongs to an Iroquois creational myth passed down from generation to generation. The Iroquois are a group of Native-American tribes who share a language, the Iroquoian.

The myth begins with a devoted husband doing anything he can for his pregnant wife. Although he knew it was forbidden, he dug up the roots of the Great Tree just to bring her the bark she wanted. Why do you think the two rivers that start so close together flow to such different locations

Answers

Final answer:

Rivers that start near each other can flow to different locations because their paths are determined by the surrounding topography, including elevation changes and land slopes, and other abiotic features affecting their flow.

Explanation:

The reason two rivers that start close together can flow in drastically different directions to distinct locations has to do with the abiotic features and the topography of the land they traverse. Those features, such as the elevation or gradient, channel width, and the geological structure underneath, dictate whether the water will travel quickly or slowly, how much it will erode the land, and eventually which path it will take towards its final destination. For instance, the Danube and the Rhine rivers both originate near southern Germany but flow in opposite directions due to the shaping forces of topography and Earth's geology.

Rivers inherently follow the path of least resistance, typically flowing from higher to lower elevations, and are influenced by local environmental factors such as the slope of the land, the structure of the underlying rock, and human interference like levees and canals. These geographical factors can even change over time, thereby altering the rivers' courses. Furthermore, the origin point of a river, commonly cold with a narrow channel and fast current, is just the beginning of a river's journey. As it moves downstream, the river interacts with various other influences, such as tributaries and terrain changes, which continue to shape its direction and speed.

Final answer:

Rivers that start close together flow to different locations due to drainage divides, which are geographical features that direct water into distinct watersheds.

Explanation:

Two rivers that start close together can flow to very different locations due to the presence of drainage divides. A drainage divide is a geographical barrier, such as a ridge or a mountain, which directs the flow of water into one watershed or another. The beginning point of a river, known as its source, could be a melting snowfield on a mountaintop, a spring, or a water catchment area. Watersheds have distinct boundaries and the water that falls within these boundaries follows a path determined by the terrain and ends up in a specific body of water. This body of water could be an ocean, a lake, or even a terminal lake with no outlet to the ocean. The abiotic features of rivers and streams, such as temperature, nutrient levels, and current speeds, all vary along the river's course and can affect its direction of flow.

Which sentence correctly uses parallel structure? My friends never judge me by my actions or statements. My friends never judge me by my actions or what I say. My friends never judge me by my statements or what I do. My friends never judge me by what I said or d

Answers

Answer:

The correct option is the first one "My friends never judge me by my actions or statements."

Explanation:

Parallel structures occur when we use the same grammar pattern to express ideas. In the example provided, the paralle structure is "actions or statements". Parallelism here is successfull since it uses two nouns as part of the sentence.

In the rest of the examples provided, there is a break in the pattern so no parallelism is achieved. Example: option 2 uses "actions or what I say". In this case, the pattern is broken since "action" is a noun and "what I say" is a noun clause.

The sentence that correctly uses parallel structure is: "My friends never judge me by my actions or what I say." The correct option is A.

What is parallel structure?

A parallel structure is an essential aspect of effective writing, as it ensures clarity and coherence in a sentence or passage. By using parallelism, writers can create balanced and harmonious sentences that make their ideas more compelling and easily understandable to the readers.

In this sentence, the parallel elements are "my actions" and "what I say." Both elements are nouns or noun phrases and are connected by the coordinating conjunction "or." The other options do not maintain parallelism in their structure.

Need help with essay that persuades the reader that vegetarianism is good. Need help with steps 6 and 8..I’ve done most of the steps so you can use those (you’ll get your points worth)

Step 1. Your topic is vegetarianism.

Step 2. Form your proposition. (This is mine) being a vegetarian is a healthy and clean lifestyle, that is simple yet delicious. Vegetarians can choose from a wide variety of healthy non-meat foods such as dairy, grains, vegetables, fruits, and beans, etc. Eating in such a way increases your health.

Step 4. Indenture your audience. For this essay, your audience is your instructor. Write at least three ways that you might persuade your audience to accept your proposition. (These are mine)
1. Having compassion for animals.
2. Reduce global warming.
3. Reduce risk of heart disease, and other health risks.

Step 5. Write at least six specific, concrete supporting facts and details for your proposition below. (These are mine)
1. Living longer-Eating meat gives you a shorter life-span with more disabilities as one gets older.
2. More energy-Balanced vegetarian diets are naturally free of cholesterol laden, artery clogging animal products that physically slow us down and keep us sleeping in too much.
3. Avoiding toxic chemicals-95% of pesticide residue in the typical American diet comes from meat.
4. Saves money-Meat takes up 10% of Americans foo spending while eating vegetarian foods would cut individual food bills by an average $4,000 a year.
5. Spares animals lives-Many vegetarians give up meat for their concern for animals.
6. Helps reduce famine-If the grain now fed to livestock was given to people, more people would be fed.

Step 6. Narrow your proposition. Write your final proposition and it’s three main subtopics.

Step 7. Acknowledge your argument’s weaknesses. Write one argument you expect your audience to make to counter your proposition. (This is mine)
“But meat tastes too good to give up.”

Write at least three counter arguments to that argument. List your support below. (These are mine)
Does slaughtering innocent animals appeal to your appetite? Well, that’s what you’re eating, animals. And, not only is it bad for the animals, but also for the environment, chemical and animal waste run off from factory farms is responsible for more than 173,000 miles of polluted rivers and streams. Now, lets talk about what that “yummy” meat does to your body, cardiovascular disease kills 1million Americans annually and is the leading cause of death in the U.S. But, the mortality rate for cardiovascular disease is lower in vegetarians than in meat eaters.

The priest sank down into the green chair and picked up a glossy missionary magazine. He turned the colored pages full of lepers and pagans without looking at them. "You know I can't do that, Leon. There should have been the Last Rites and a funeral Mass at the very least." Leon put on his green cap and pulled the flaps down over his ears. "It's getting late, Father. I've got to go." When Leon opened the door Father Paul stood up and said, "Wait." He left the room and came back wearing a long brown overcoat. What does the outcome of this discussion reveal about the priest?

Answers

The priest in the discussion showcases a dedication to his religious obligations by preparing to leave with his coat, indicating an intent to possibly perform Last Rites or a Mass, despite the initial reluctance shown by Leon.

The outcome of the discussion between the priest and Leon reveals that the priest has a sense of duty and a commitment to religious practices. Despite being shown apathy initially, the priest's willingness to don his long brown overcoat suggests a readiness to perform his pastoral duties, perhaps indicating that he wants to ensure the right religious ceremonies—like Last Rites or a funeral Mass—are carried out. This action illustrates the inner conflict between the desire to adhere to religious protocols and the realities of modern or unorthodox situations that may not allow for such practices.

In the various texts, themes such as devotion to religious ceremony, the solemnity of priests, and the performance of last rites are recurring motifs. Priests in these narratives often face challenges in balancing their duty to their faith and the emotional complexities of their congregants' lives.

Ashley desperately tried not to fidget as the well-dressed woman sitting behind the mahogany desk stared at her over black wire-rimmed glasses. The woman’s lips were set in a harsh line as she glanced down and, once again, reviewed Ashley’s volunteer application for museum tour guide aide. Every now and again, the woman would hmmm or say, “Impressive.” Ashley wasn’t quite sure what could be so impressive; she never had a job before—unless you count babysitting on weekends. At those jobs, she had only made $8 an hour, so she wasn’t sure they really counted as jobs. Although they hadn’t paid her like “real” jobs, they had certainly felt real enough.

Maybe I should have expanded upon the numerous difficulties I had to overcome during my babysitting jobs, she thought, wishing that idea had occurred to her when she had answered the questionnaire. Three little lines of space was hardly enough room to adequately describe her experiences. Handling the havoc of babysitting had required all of her youthful energy, ability, and skill. Her mom had called those jobs enriching and invaluable achievements. Her dad had said they were questionable miscalculations, similar to deciding to hike the Rocky Mountains: it wasn’t until you were halfway up that you realized that you should have said “no” instead.

“You seem like a calm person,” the woman said as Ashley fought the nearly irresistible compulsion to smooth down her hair, a nervous gesture that would have proven the woman’s assumption incorrect.

Ashley looked at the woman’s nametag before responding so she could politely address the woman by name, per her mom’s advice. Ms. Sinclair, the nametag said. Ashley tried not to frown in her sudden anxiety. The receptionist had been Chandra, the security guard had been Isaac, and the other employees she had met between the entrance to the gift shop and the door to the office had been Jolie, Mercedes, and Dillon.

“Thank you, Ms. Sinclair,” Ashley said as confidently as she could, though she was understandably very intimidated.

“It is not enough to be calm or sedate,” Ms. Sinclair replied in a stern voice. “It is not enough to be civil or courteous. In order to do this job, you have to have great restraint. You must be able to smile with grace even as a horde of elephants charges toward you. Things can become quite hectic around here, and not everyone can handle erupting chaos.”

Question:

Using details from the text, describe how Ashley's attitude changes during the course of the story

Answers

While she seemed nervous throughout the interview, at first, she was reflective over what she could have done differently in the written portion of the questionnaire. This then changed back to nervousness. And her anxiety started to build as she recalled the names of those she had met thus becoming intimidated as stated in the text. Towards the end, she had to fight the nervous fidgeting, which showed great restraint as the interviewer noticed about her. She also noticed that she was calm and sedate, then courteous and civil, ending with great restraint.
