Answer 2

Answer:

a= 1/2m+25

Step-by-step explanation:

As the statement says that Sophie pays for one half of the cost of the car rental (m) and that she spent $25 on gasoline, the expression that could be used to determine the amount that she spent would be equal to the sum of one half of the cost of the car rental plus 25:

a= 1/2m+25

a= amount Sophie spent

m= cost of the car rental

Step-by-step explanation:

4(x-5) +2(y + 6) -10

4x-20+2y+12-10

4x+2y-18

Final answer:

The expression 4(x-5) + 2(y+6) - 10 simplifies to 4x + 2y - 18 using the distributive property and combining like terms. Answer choice (A) is the correct one.

Explanation:

To simplify the expression 4(x - 5) + 2(y + 6) - 10, you need to use the distributive property. This property allows you to multiply a number outside of a bracket with each term inside the bracket.

First, distribute 4 into (x - 5) which gives you 4x - 20. Then distribute 2 into (y + 6) which gives you 2y + 12. Now, you have 4x - 20 + 2y + 12 - 10

Combine like terms by adding or subtracting them. In this case, -20, +12 and -10 are like terms. When you add these together, you get -18. So, the simplified expression becomes 4x + 2y - 18. Therefore, answer choice (A) is correct.

Cindy can read in different amounts of time 10 pages in 8minutes, 15 pages in 12 minutes and 25 pages in 20 minutes what is the constant of proportionality?

Answers

Final answer:

Cindy's reading rate is consistent at 1.25 pages per minute, which is the constant of proportionality for the different reading sessions mentioned.

Explanation:

The question is asking for the constant of proportionality in the context of how many pages Cindy can read over a period of time. To find the constant of proportionality, we take the number of pages read and divide it by the time taken to read those pages. For 10 pages in 8 minutes, the constant is 1.25 pages per minute. For 15 pages in 12 minutes, the constant is also 1.25 pages per minute, and for 25 pages in 20 minutes, the constant remains unchanged at 1.25 pages per minute.

The constant of proportionality is the rate at which Cindy reads, which is consistent across the different amounts of time and pages given. It represents the number of pages she can read in one minute and serves as a useful measure to determine how long it will take to read a certain number of pages or how many pages can be read in a given timeframe.

Write a recursive formula for the arithmetic sequence

Answers

Answer:

a1 = 2; an = a(n-1) + 3/2

Step-by-step explanation:

Common difference = 7/2 - 2

= 7/2 - 4/2

= 3/2

(Also 5 - 7/2 = 3/2.)

First term a1 = 2

So the formula is  a1 = 2; an = a(n-1) + 3/2 which is the first choice.

The recursive formula for the arithmatic sequence is a₁ = 2, aⁿ = aⁿ⁻¹ + 3/2.

What is recursive formula?

A recursive formula is a formula that defines any tern of a sequence in terms ofits preceding term(s).

Now the given series is-

2,7/2,5,13/2,......

Here the the first term of the series is 2

⇒a₁ = 2

Common difference (d) = (7/2) - 2 = 3/2

Now the recursive formula of an arithmatic sequence is given as,

aⁿ = aⁿ⁻¹ + d

Putting the values,

aⁿ = aⁿ⁻¹ + 3/2

Hence,the recursive formula for the arithmatic sequence is a₁ = 2, aⁿ = aⁿ⁻¹ + 3/2.

Answers

Answer: x=72, y=26

Step-by-step explanation:

Since a line is 180°, we can do:

2x+10+y=180

2x+y=170

Since a triangle is 180° also, we can do:

x+y+82=180

x+y=98

If we subtract x+y=98 from 2x+y=170, we get:

2x+y=170

x+y=98

x=72

If we insert x=72 into x+y=98, we get:

72+y=98

y=26

We can check our answer by inserting x=72 and y=26 into x+y+82=180

72+26+82=180

98+82=180

180=180

Lee wants to collect 22 of a certain type of action figure. He had 11 of the figures, then got 3 more for his birthday. What decimal represents the part of Lee's goal that he had reached?

Answers

To solve this problem, we must first find the fraction of action figures that Lee has gotten so far.  To do this, we will represent the number of action figures that Lee currently has in the numerator divided by the denominator, the total number of action figures that Lee is attempting to collect.

First, we must recognize that Lee currently has 11 action figures plus the 3 that he got for his birthday.  To find the total number of action figures that Lee has, we must add together these two parts.

11+3 = 14

Therefore, Lee has 14 action figures (this will become the numerator of the fraction).  The denominator of the fraction is the total number of action figures, which we are given is 22.

Thus, our fraction is 14/22.

To convert this into a decimal, we can simply divide the numerator of the fraction by the denominator of the fraction, which gives us:

14/22 = 0.636363636

Therefore, your answer is approximately 0.636.

Which of the following best describes the relationship between (x + 1) and the polynomial -3x3 - 2x2 + 1?

A.
(x + 1) is a factor.

B.
It is impossible to tell whether (x + 1) is a factor.

C.
(x + 1) is not a factor.

Answers

Answer:

(C) (x+1) is not a factor

Step-by-step explanation:

To show that x+1 is not a factor, in other words to show that the polynomial cannot be written as a product

[tex](x+1)\cdot(some\,\,quadratic)=-3x^3-2x^2+1[/tex]

it suffices to test that x=-1 is not a root of the original cubic:

[tex]-3x^3-2x^2+1|_{x=-1}=-3(-1)^3-2(-1)^2+1=2\neq 0[/tex]

which is hereby shown and the option (A) is out.

Option (B) is non-sense.

Option (C) is the correct answer.

After applying the Factor Theorem, we find that substituting -1 into the polynomial [tex]-3x^3 - 2x^2 + 1[/tex] does not yield zero; hence, (x + 1) is not a factor, option C.

The student has asked whether (x + 1) is a factor of the polynomial [tex]-3x^3 - 2x^2 + 1[/tex]. To determine if (x + 1) is indeed a factor, one could perform polynomial division or apply the Factor Theorem. According to the Factor Theorem, (x + 1) is a factor if and only if substituting -1 for x in the polynomial yields zero. Substituting, we get:

[tex]-3(-1)^3 - 2(-1)^2 + 1 = 3 - 2 + 1 = 2[/tex]

Since the result is not zero, (x + 1) is not a factor of the polynomial. So, the correct answer to the student's question is option C: (x + 1) is not a factor.

Solve the inequality and express your answer in interval notation. x^2+8x+5<0

-7.32 < x < -0.68  0r -4-√11 < x < √11 - 4

Step-by-step explanation:

The given inequality is x^2 + 8x + 5 < 0

Here we cannot factorize, so we need to use the quadratic formula to find the solution.

The quadratic formula x = [tex]\frac{-b  +/- \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac)} }{2a}[/tex]

Here a = 1 , b = 8 and c = 5

Plug in these values in the formula, we get

x = -8 ± √(8)^2 - 4*1*5)  ÷ 2(1)

x = (-8 ±√44)/2

x = (-8 ±2√11)/2

x = -4 ± √11

There are two values for x.

x = -4 + √11 and x = -4-√11

√10 = 3.16

So x = -4 + 3.32        and x = -4 - 3.32

x =-0.68                   and   x = -7.32

This means

-7.32 < x < -0.68  0r -4-√11 < x < √11 - 4

Answer:

[tex]-4-\sqrt{11} <[/tex] x [tex]-4+\sqrt{11}[/tex]

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following quadratic inequality by applying the quadratic formula to solve it (since it can not be factorized) and then express it in an interval notation:

[tex]x^2+8x+5<0[/tex]

We know the quadratic formula:

[tex]x=\frac{-b+-\sqrt{b^2-4ac} }{2a}[/tex]

Putting in the values to get:

[tex]x=\frac{-8+-\sqrt{8^2-4(1)(5)} }{2(1)} \\\\x=\frac{-8+-\sqrt{44} }{2}[/tex]

[tex]x=-4-\sqrt{11} , x=-4+\sqrt{11}[/tex]

Therefore, the interval notation for the given quadratic inequality for x will be:

[tex]-4-\sqrt{11} <[/tex] x [tex]-4+\sqrt{11}[/tex].

The table shows the low outside temperatures for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

What was the change in the low outside temperature from Tuesday to Wednesday?

This function table shows the outside temperature for a given day. Monday, -12.5 (degrees celsius). Tuesday, -8.6 (degrees celsius). Wednesday, -10 (degrees celsius).

–10⁰

–1.4⁰

18.6⁰

–18.6⁰

Answers

Final answer:

The change in low outside temperature from Tuesday to Wednesday was -1.4°C, indicating a decrease of 1.4°C. Converting 88°F to Celsius yields approximately 31.1°C. The Celsius scale is known as 'centigrade' due to its 100-degree division between water's freezing and boiling points.

Explanation:

To solve for the change in low outside temperature from Tuesday to Wednesday, we subtract the low temperature for Wednesday from the low temperature for Tuesday:

Change in temperature = Temperature on Wednesday - Temperature on Tuesday

Change in temperature = (-10°C) - (-8.6°C)

Change in temperature = -10°C + 8.6°C = -1.4°C

Thus, the low outside temperature changed by -1.4°C from Tuesday to Wednesday, which means it dropped by 1.4°C.

1. To convert the temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius:
C = (°F - 32) / 1.8. So on a warm day of 88°F:
C = (88°F - 32) / 1.8 = 56°F / 1.8 = 31.1°C approximately.

2. The Celsius scale is called "centigrade" because it is based on a scale of 100 degrees between the freezing and boiling points of water.

3. If the outside temperature is steady at 10°C and you want to maintain a shorts-and-short-sleeves comfortable inside temperature of 22°C compared to a cooler 13°C, you would need to expend more energy to maintain the higher temperature.

The difference in energy required will depend on factors like the insulation of the building, the heating system's efficiency, and the duration for which the higher temperature is maintained.

4. When a cold front causes a drop of 40.0°F:
Celsius decrease = 40.0°F / 1.8 = 22.2°C approximately.

5. Any change in temperature in Fahrenheit degrees is nine-fifths the change in Celsius degrees:
(Change in °F) * (5/9) = Change in °C
Thus, a change in Fahrenheit degrees is 9/5 times a change in Celsius degrees.

The correct answer is -1.4⁰.

To find the change in the low outside temperature from Tuesday to Wednesday, we need to subtract the temperature on Tuesday from the temperature on Wednesday.

The temperature on Tuesday is -8.6 degrees Celsius, and the temperature on Wednesday is -10 degrees Celsius.

To subtract -8.6 from -10, we can rewrite the equation as -10 - (-8.6). When we subtract a negative number, it is the same as adding the positive number. So, -10 - (-8.6) becomes -10 + 8.6.

When we add -10 and 8.6, we get -1.4.

Therefore, the change in the low outside temperature from Tuesday to Wednesday is -1.4 degrees Celsius.

So the correct answer is -1.4⁰.

If triangle CFH is similar to triangle TDM with a scale factor of 4: 5 find the perimeter of CFH

Answers

Answer:

Given: If triangle CFH is similar to triangle TDM with a scale factor of 4: 5.

Similar triangle states that the two triangles are said to be similar if their corresponding angles are congruent and the corresponding sides are in proportion.

then by definition, we have;

[tex]\frac{CF}{TD}= \frac{FH}{DM} =\frac{CH}{TM}= \frac{4}{5}[/tex]  .....[1]

From the figure, we have;

CF = x +7 , FH = x-1 , CH = x+3 , TD = 2x -13 , DM = x+6 and TM = x+ 11

Solve for x;

[1] ⇒ [tex]\frac{CF}{TD} =\frac{4}{5}[/tex]

Substitute the value of CF and TD to solve for x;

[tex]\frac{x+7}{2x-13} = \frac{4}{5}[/tex]

By cross multiply we get;

[tex]5 (x+7) = 4(2x-13)[/tex]

Using distributive property : [tex]a\cdot(b+c) = a\cdot b + a\cdot c[/tex]

5x + 35 = 8x - 52

Subtract 35 on both sides we get;

5x + 35 -35 = 8x - 52 -35

Simplify:

5x = 8x - 87

Subtract 8x on both sides we get;

5x -8x = 8x -87 -8x

Simplify:

-3x = -87

Divide both sides by -3 we get;

x = 29

To find the perimeter of triangle CFH;

Sides are:

CF = x + 7 = 29 + 7 = 36 units

CH = x+3 = 29 +3 = 32 units

FH = x -1 = 29 -1 = 28 cm.

Perimeter of any triangle is the sum of all the sides of the triangle.

Perimeter of triangle CFH = CF + CH + FH = 36 + 32 + 28 = 96 units

therefore, the perimeter of triangle CFH is, 96 units.

Final answer:

Without the perimeter of triangle TDM, we can't calculate the perimeter of triangle CFH using only the scale factor. When additional information is provided such as the length of a side in both triangles, it will be possible.

Explanation:

The subject of this question is mathematics, specifically regarding similar triangles and the calculation of a triangle's perimeter when the scale factor is provided. In this case, the triangles CFH and TDM are similar with a scale factor of 4:5.

When triangles are similar, corresponding sides are proportional which means one side of triangle CFH is 4/5 the length of the corresponding side of triangle TDM. If we were given the perimeter of triangle TDM, we would multiply by the ratio (4/5 or 0.8) to get the perimeter of triangle CFH. However, without this extra information, we aren't able to provide the exact perimeter of triangle CFH.

The length of the sides of the triangle is calculated using the distance formula.

The distance between the points (x₁,y₁) and (x₂,y₂) is

[tex]d= \sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}}[/tex]

Now,

AB = [tex]\sqrt{(11.11-14)^{2}+(15-10)^{2}}=\sqrt{8.3521+25} = \sqrt{33.3521}=5.78[/tex]

BC = [tex]\sqrt{(8.22-11.11)^{2}+(10-15)^{2}}=\sqrt{8.3521+25} = \sqrt{33.3521}=5.78[/tex]

CA =  [tex]\sqrt{(8.22-14)^{2}+(10-10)^{2}}=5.78[/tex]

The length of the sides of the triangle is 5.78. All the sides are equal in length. It is an equilateral triangle.

What is the solution to the system of equations Y equals -1/4 X +2 and 3Y equals -3/4 X -6

[tex]3y \: = \: \frac{ - 3}{4} x \: - \: 6 \\ or \\ y \: = \: \frac{ - 1}{4} x \: - \: 2[/tex]
[tex]y = y \\ \frac{ - 1}{4} x \: + \: 2 \: = \: \frac{ - 1}{4} x \: - \: 2 \\ or \\ 2 \: = \: - 2[/tex]
which is not possible,
Hence, the system has no solutions, as the lines are parallel and never intersect.

Answer:

No solutions

Step-by-step explanation:

y = -1/4 x+2

3y = -3/4 x -6

We can use substitution since the first equation is solved for y

Every time there is a y in the second equation, replace it with -1/4 x +2

3 (-1/4 x+2) = -3/4 x -6

Distribute

-3/4 x +6 = -3/4 x-6

Add 3/4 x to each side

-3/4 x + 3/4 x +6 = -3/4 x + 3/4x-6

6 = -6

Since this not a true statement, the system of equations has no solutions

Today, Im here to talk with you about coalmines. Coalmines are one of this areas most treasured and historical sites. In fact, the mine site attracts visitors and tourists from around the country, giving the nation a peek into our small town. I call it our small town because this is where I was born and raised. Although I eventually moved away to attend college, I came back often to see family and friends. As a child, my parents first took me to see the coalmines and mining museum when I was 11 years old. 2I had already known what to expect once we got there since I had read Nathan Connors book, Exploring the Mines several times growing up. In his book, he compares the underground mines to a massive cave, waiting to be explored (Connor 45). I must say, with my first visit to the coalmines, thats exactly the feeling I got as the mine elevator slowly took us down into the dark, cool underground maze. I can still remember squinting to try to adjust to the darkness, and even feeling a little scared inside as we went down that first time. 3I visited the coalmines several times after that, either with my family, or through school trips. However, once I graduated from high school, it would be another 10 years before I returned. This time, I was seeing the mines as a teacher of history, and I used my return visit to do research for a book I was working on about the coalmines.4It may sound funny, but I still got those same mixed feelings of fear and excitement as the elevator took me down into the cool underground. But once I got out my pen and paper, and the tour guide started to fill me in on what he knew about the mine and its history, it was all business. Much of the machinery and tools the miners had used were still down there. In fact, my tour guide was even using an original coal oil lamp to light our way through the mines. The coal oil lamps were one of the most important pieces of equipment to the miners, and each miner had his own special lamp (Johnson 79).5I had started my research on the mines with the goal of writing about the mine itself; the look and feel of the mine, and the coal it produced that helped fuel machinery and heat homes. However, in the end, my book ended up being more about the miners than the mines. Most miners endured long and hard hours of working underground, and without receiving much pay. Perhaps Marybeth Anderson said it best when she called the underground mines, a great place to visit, but not somewhere Id want to work (Anderson 121). 6I couldnt agree more.Works CitedAnderson, Marybeth.
