Answer:

Jason

Explanation:

Jason is the leader of the Argonauts in Greek mythology looking for a golden hide.  In Greece, under the leadership of Jason , the heroes come together and decide to go to Kolhis to capture the Golden Fleece. The Argonauts build a ship called go Argo  and set out for Kolhida. After a long and very difficult journey, they reach the powerful and rich kingdom of Aiet. The King respects Greek heroes and learns why they came. Aiet decides to hand over the Golden Fleece to the Greeks if Jason fulfills his requirements. Jason will first submit to the fire-breathing oxen, have a headlock on their heads, and drive a large field. Then Jason must kill a dragon and plant his teeth in the ground. Warriors emerge from these teeth. Jason must fight and defeat these warriors. Only then can the Greeks get the Golden Fleece. It is not possible for anyone other than Aiet to fulfill these requirements. Therefore the king is sure that Jason will die. Without the help of Medea, the daughter of the king, it is clear that the Greek leader would not be able to meet the requirements of Aiet. The daughter of the king fell in love with Jason at first sight and decided to help him. Medea is a sorcerer. With his help, Jason easily fulfills the king's requirements and asks Aiet for the Golden Fleece. The King immediately understands who helped the Greeks and explains that he will not give the Golden Fleece. Then Jason decides to take over the hide. However, it is impossible for Medea to do so without the help of Medea. The king's daughter puts the terrible dragon awaiting the hide, and the Greeks manage to capture the Golden Hide. They quickly board their ships and set off for Greece. Medea goes with Jason. As soon as Aiet knew that the hide had been taken away and his daughter had escaped, he immediately gathered his army and chased the Greeks. The soldiers captured Jason's army, but the leader of this army was Medea's older brother. For this reason, Medea says that Jason has kidnapped her and is thrown into her brother's arms. His brother accepts him, and Medea stabs his brother because of his love for Jason and throws him into the sea.  Jason and Medea flee while his army calls Medea's older brother to organize the necessary ceremony. For this reason, the soldiers are unable to retrieve the Golden Fleece.  As soon as Jason arrives, he agrees to marry the king's daughter. Jason hangs the pelt on a tree branch and brings this fertility to the land. Medea goes crazy when Jason leaves her and kills her own children. then sneaks into the palace and poisons Jason's wife.

Answer 2

Final answer:

The tragic hero of Euripides' 'Medea' is Medea herself, a complex character that embodies the elements of a tragic hero defined in Aristotle's 'Poetics', including a reversal of fortune and leading to catharsis.

Explanation:

The tragic hero of Euripides’ play Medea is Medea herself. Euripides’ work often explored the human aspects of his characters and portrayed strong female protagonists. In Medea, he presents a domestic drama where the lead character, Medea, is a complex figure who embodies the characteristics of a tragic hero as defined by Aristotle's Poetics. This includes a reversal of fortune (peripeteia), a moment of recognition (anagnorisis), and eventually leading to a catharsis. Medea's calculated and vengeful actions against her unfaithful husband, Jason, result from her human fallibility and extreme emotional turmoil, demonstrating Euripides' nuanced view of mythical characters as relatable and flawed humans.

B) and the coastal counties excluding the surrounding Los Angeles County itself as shown (in Figure 6.1.)
C) and the coastal counties surrounding Los Angeles County but not considering Los Angeles County itself as a county that is included in this data.
D) and the L.A. coastal counties. Note: Los Angeles County itself, however, is not to be included in the counties that surround it when considering the data shown in Figure 6.1.

Answers

Answer:

The answer is D

Explanation:

Its D because it still shows the note on the side without being confusing fro the readers to read while the other questions don't present the note clearly

Final answer:

Option D is the most precise, as it clearly indicates that Los Angeles County, even though located amongst the coastal counties, should not be included in the data analysis. The other options are either unclear or overly verbose.

Explanation:

The question asks which sentence option is the most precise in describing a situation where Los Angeles County is surrounded by coastal counties but should not be considered one of those coastal counties. Between options A, B, C, and D, option D 'and the L.A. coastal counties. Note: Los Angeles County itself, however, is not to be included in the counties that surround it when considering the data shown in Figure 6.1.' is the most accurate and concise.

Option D achieves precision and clarity by clearly indicating that while Los Angeles County is situated among the coastal counties, it should not be included in the analyzed data.

The other options are less precise because they either use unclear phrasing (option A and B), or are overly verbose (option C), which could potentially overwhelm the reader with unnecessary information.

The missing word for the sentence fragment 'One party playing requires another' is 'which,' to be placed between 'party' and 'playing.' Consequently, the corrected sentence should read, 'One party which is playing requires another to find a given word...'.

To address the missing words in the given paragraph, we must closely examine the context and the syntax to determine the appropriate word that would complete each sentence. Doing so ensures clarity and cohesiveness within the writing, which assists in delivering the intended message to the reader.

Looking at the sample paragraph provided:

"There is a game of puzzles," he resumed, "which is played upon a map. One party playing requires another to find a given word-the name of town, river, state or empire-any word, in short, upon the motley and perplexed surface of the chart."

In the sentence fragment, "One party playing requires another," the verb 'playing' seems to be functioning incorrectly in the sentence. To correct this fragment, we should insert the missing word 'which' to connect the fragment with the preceding sentence.

The corrected sentence would then read:

According to King George III, the colonies were required to:

send representatives to England to help him make appropriate colonial laws.
keep the money they made from farming and trading to improve conditions in the colonies.
None of the choices are correct.

Answers

Answer:

D

Explanation:

none of the choices are correct.

King George III required the American colonies to adhere to British laws and regulations, including various forms of taxation designed to regulate trade and raise revenue for Britain, which the colonists found objectionable and a violation of their rights.

According to King George III, the colonies were required to follow all of his laws and regulations. This included an array of measures to raise revenue such as requiring American colonists to pay British merchants with gold and silver, and the imposition of direct taxes on them. The Conciliatory Proposition in 1775 by Lord North stated that Parliament would legislate for the colonies with taxes designed to regulate trade, yet colonial expectations were far different, leading to significant distress and dissatisfaction. This system led to the sentiment that without consent to direct taxation, the colonists were being deprived of their rights as free men as articulated in the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights.

Macbeth's downfall is primarily caused by the supernatural. How far do you agree based on your
reading of the whole play? You must refer to context throughout your response.

Answers

Answer: Macbeth's downfall is primarily caused by his desire to become a king at all costs.

Explanation:

Macbeth is Shakespeare's famous tragedy about a man who is informed by the witches that he shall become a king. Upon hearing this prophecy, Macbeth does everything he can to make it come true.

Although the supernatural plays an important role in Macbeth's downfall (the witches give him a prophecy that motivates him to take action), it could be argued that Macbeth's tragic flaw is his ultimate ambition.

In Act I, Scene III, both Banquo and Macbeth encounter the witches and hear similar prophecies. Banquo does not act on the information he gets, and his prophecies come true later in the play. Macbeth, on the other hand, desperately wants to become a king, and thus kills King Duncan and Banquo. This makes him consumed by guilt and prevents him from rational thinking. Despite all the action he takes, he does not maintain his position as a king for a long period of time.

What are the components of an attitude

Answers

Final answer:

Attitudes comprise an affective component (emotions/feelings), a behavioral component (influence on behavior), and a cognitive component (beliefs/knowledge). These elements interact to form our positive or negative evaluations of various aspects of our world and are influenced by personal and situational factors.

Explanation:

Components of an Attitude

The concept of attitude encompasses one’s evaluation or feelings toward a person, idea, or object, which can be positive or negative. According to Rosenberg and Hovland (1960), attitudes consist of three main components: an affective component, which includes emotions and feelings; a behavioral component, which represents the way attitudes influence behavior; and a cognitive component, which involves beliefs and knowledge about the subject. These components are interconnected and help in forming a comprehensive understanding of one's attitudes.

Attitudes are integral to how we interact with the world and are influenced by various factors, from personal experiences and values to external situational pressures like social norms and authority. In the face of cognitive dissonance, where one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are in conflict, a change in attitude may occur as a way to reduce this tension. Consequently, understanding the multifaceted nature of attitudes can be vital for personal development and navigating various social contexts.

Memories of a Memory

Have you ever witnessed something amazing, shocking or surprising and found when describing the event that your story seems to change the more you tell it? Have you ever experienced a time when you couldn't really describe something you saw in a way that others could understand? If so, you may understand why some experts think eyewitness testimony is unreliable as evidence in scientific inquiries and trials. New insights into human memory suggest human memories are really a mixture of many non-factual things.

First, memory is vague. Imagine your room at home or a classroom you see every day. Most likely, you could describe the room very generally. You could name the color of the walls, the floors, the decorations. But the image you describe will never be as specific or detailed as if you were looking at the actual room. Memory tends to save a blurry image of what we have seen rather than specific details. So when a witness tries to identify someone, her brain may recall that the person was tall, but not be able to say how tall when faced with several tall people. There are lots of different kinds of "tall."

Second, memory uses general knowledge to fill in gaps. Our brains reconstruct events and scenes when we remember something. To do this, our brains use other memories and other stories when there are gaps. For example, one day at a library you go to quite frequently, you witness an argument between a library patron and one of the librarians. Later, when telling a friend about the event, your brain may remember a familiar librarian behind the desk rather than the actual participant simply because it is recreating a familiar scene. In effect, your brain is combining memories to help you tell the story.

Third, your memory changes over time. It also changes the more you retell the story. Documented cases have shown eyewitnesses adding detail to testimony that could not have been known at the time of the event. Research has also shown that the more a witness's account is told, the less accurate it is. You may have noticed this yourself. The next time you are retelling a story, notice what you add, or what your brain wants to add, to the account. You may also notice that you drop certain details from previous tellings of the story.

With individual memories all jumbled up with each other, it is hard to believe we ever know anything to be true. Did you really break your mother's favorite vase when you were three? Was that really your father throwing rocks into the river with you when you were seven? The human brain may be quite remarkable indeed. When it comes to memory, however, we may want to start carrying video cameras if we want to record the true picture.

Part A and Part B below contain one fill-in-the-blank to be used for all three question responses. Your complete response must be in the format A, B, C including the letter choice, commas, and a space after the commas.

Part A:

Which of the following best explains why memories from childhood are unreliable?

Fill in blank 1 using A, B, or C.

Our brains add details and general knowledge to childhood memories.

Our brains are not as reliable as video cameras are.

Our brains create new stories to make the past more interesting.

Part B

Select one quotation from the text that supports your answer to Part A. Add your selection to blank 1 using E, F, or G.
But the image you describe will never be as specific or detailed as if you were looking at the actual room.

When a witness tries to identify someone, her brain may recall that the person was tall, but not be able to say how tall.

To do this, our brains use other memories and other stories when there are gaps.

Select one quotation from the text that supports your answer to Part A. Add your selection to blank 1 using H, I, or J.

Answers

Answer:

Part A: A

Part B: G

Part C: H

Explanation:

These are the answers that best express the ideas of the text. In this text, we learn about how the brain operates. We learn that memories are created in various different ways in the brain. However, it seems like memories are not particularly reliable, as the brain tends to add or modify information that tells a story better. Therefore, it is difficult for someone to be sure whether the details he remembers from his childhood are indeed accurate.

Shakespeare places the theme of love (platonic, romantic, and filial) at the forefront of this drama. Based on your reading, of the taking of the shrew, how are each of these forms of love characterized? What do you think Shakespeare is saying about the nature of each?

Answers

Answer:

'The Taming of the shrew' talks about complexity of issues in love, marriage and society.

Explanation:

"The Taming of the Shrew" by "William Shakespeare" talks about love, whether it is romantic, platonic or filial. He talks about romantic relationship between a man and a woman when they take interest in each other and decide to get married. Both of them show their romantic side to their partner during the courtship and their love is both romantic and platonic during this time.

The theme 'filial' is depicted in the story when Shakespeare shows how parents play a significant role in life of their children who are about to get married. Lucentio and Bianca loved each other but he got permission to marry her only after convincing her father Baptista that he was very rich.

Final answer:

In 'The Taming of the Shrew,' Shakespeare explores platonic, romantic, and filial love, portraying each with different characteristics. Platonic love is depicted through friendship, romantic love through a passionate relationship, and filial love through competition for affection. Shakespeare suggests that each form of love has its own nature and complexities.

Explanation:

In Shakespeare's play 'The Taming of the Shrew,' the theme of love is portrayed in different forms - platonic, romantic, and filial. Platonic love is characterized by the relationship between Petruchio and Grumio, which can be seen as a deep and loyal friendship. Romantic love is depicted through the tumultuous relationship between Petruchio and Katherine, where their intense passion and conflicts drive the plot. Filial love is shown between Bianca and her suitors, as they compete for her affection. Through these different forms of love, Shakespeare explores the nature of each. He suggests that platonic love can be a source of support and trust, romantic love involves challenges and compromises, and filial love can be influenced by external factors and competition.

What reason does Napoleon give for ending the

Sunday meetings? Why does he really end them?

Answer:

Napoleon ended Sunday meetings because he thought that they were unnecessary and wastage of time.

Explanation:

In Chapter 5, of the novel "Animal Farm" by George Orwell, Napoleon delivered the speech stating that there will be no more Sunday meetings. The reason that he gave was that Sunday meetings were "unnecessary and wasted time".

But Napoleon ended this Sunday meetings because he thought that it will be a threat to his power. He formed a committee of pigs who will take further decisions but in private.

"The animals would still assemble on Sunday mornings to salute the flag, sing Beasts of England , and receive their orders for the week; but there would be no more debates." (Quoted Text from "Animal Farm")

His statement that there will be no more debates signifies that he was afraid of being overthrown if Sunday meetings would be held and debates occur.

In 'Animal Farm,' Napoleon ends the Sunday meetings claiming they're unnecessary as the pigs should make decisions. Actually, he aims to centralize power and mute dissent.

In George Orwell's 'Animal Farm,' Napoleon ends the Sunday meetings, stating that they are unnecessary and that the pigs, who are more knowledgeable, should make the decisions for the farm. However, the real reason he does this is to consolidate his control over the other animals and prevent them from voicing dissenting opinions.

His stratagem is an example of authoritarian power manipulation. To support this interpretation, consider the text: '...great plans which had to be worked out from week to week...' (Chapter 9), which Napoleon used as an excuse, showing that he intended to centralize decision-making and eliminate the animals' communal voice.

In this case, we are supposed to change the sentence into indirect speech.

First of all, we should introduce an indirect speech sentence with the verb to ask in Past Simple Tense.

We change the verb into Past Simple Tense because the verb in the direct speech appears in Present Simple Tense, while the other part of the sentence will be in Past Continuous (Present Continuous goes into Past Continuous).

So, the rule is that a verb in Present Simple in the direct speech will go into Past Simple in the indirect speech.

Also, there is a rule about changing personal pronouns. If personal pronoun in the Direct Speech appears in the 1st (I) person of singular, it will be changed into a 3rd (in this case HE) person of singular.
