The fish tank has side lengths 20in, 10in and height 15in. The water level is two inches below the top of the tank. A glass sphere of radius 1in is dropped in to the tank. What is the new distance from the water to the top of the tank? How many of these balls can be put into the tank with the tank not overflowing?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Part 1) The new distance from the water to the top of the tank is [tex]1.979\ in[/tex]

Part 2) The maximum number of balls that can be put into the tank with the tank not overflowing is 95

Step-by-step explanation:

step 1

Find the total volume of the tank

[tex]V=20*10*15=3,000\ in^{3}[/tex]

step 2

Find the volume of the tank if the water level is two inches below the top of the tank

[tex]V=20*10*(15-2)=2,600\ in^{3}[/tex]

step 3

Find the volume of the glass sphere

The volume of the glass sphere is equal to

[tex]V=\frac{4}{3}\pi r^{3}[/tex]

we have

[tex]r=1\ in[/tex]

assume

[tex]\pi=3.14[/tex]

substitute

[tex]V=\frac{4}{3}(3.14)(1)^{3}[/tex]

[tex]V=4.2\ in^{3}[/tex]

step 4

What is the new distance from the water to the top of the tank?

we know that

[tex]2 in -----> represent (3,000-2,600)=400\ in^{3}[/tex]

so

using proportion

Find how many inches correspond a volume of [tex]4.2\ in^{3}[/tex]

[tex]\frac{2}{400}\frac{in}{in^{3}}=\frac{x}{4.2}\frac{in}{in^{3}}\\ \\x=4.2*2/400\\ \\x=0.021\ in[/tex]

The new distance from the water to the top of the tank is

[tex]2-0.021=1.979\ in[/tex]

step 5

Find how many of these balls can be put into the tank with the tank not overflowing

we know that

The volume of one ball is equal to  [tex]4.2\ in^{3}[/tex]

using proportion

[tex]\frac{1}{4.2}=\frac{x}{400}\\ \\x=400/4.2\\ \\x=95.23\ balls[/tex]

therefore

The maximum number of balls that can be put into the tank with the tank not overflowing is 95

A straight road connects the towns of Winridge and Upper Lansbury are (6,10). If Ty drives from Winridge to Upper Lansbury at an average speed of 40 miles per hour, will the trip take more than an hour? Explain

Answers

Answer:

The trip will take more than one hour

Step-by-step explanation:

The complete question is

A straight road connects the towns of Winridge and Upper Lansbury. On a map on which each unit represents 10 miles, the coordinates of Winridge are (8,4) and the coordinates of Upper Lansbury are (6,10). If Ty drives from Winridge to Upper Lansbyet at an average speed of 40 miles per hour, will the trip take more than an hour? Explain your reasoning

we know that

The speed is equal to divide the distance by the time

so

s=d/t

Solve for t

t=d/s ----> the time is equal to divide the distance by the speed

step 1

Find the distance

the formula to calculate the distance between two points is equal to

[tex]d=\sqrt{(y2-y1)^{2}+(x2-x1)^{2}}[/tex]

we have

(8,4), (6,10)

substitute

[tex]d=\sqrt{(10-4)^{2}+(6-8)^{2}}[/tex]

[tex]d=\sqrt{(6)^{2}+(-2)^{2}}[/tex]

[tex]d=\sqrt{40}[/tex]

[tex]d=2\sqrt{10}\ units[/tex]

Convert to miles

[tex]d=2\sqrt{10}*10=20\sqrt{10}\ miles[/tex]

[tex]d=63.2\ miles[/tex]

step 2

Find the time

we have

s=40 miles/hour

d=63.2 miles

t=d/s -----> t=63.2/40=1.58 hours

1.58 hours > 1 hour

therefore

The trip will take more than one hour

Different groups of 100 graduates of a business school were asked the starting annual salary for their first job after graduation, and the sampling variability was low. If the average salary of one of the groups was $96,000, which of these is least likely to be the average salary of another of the groups?

Answers

Final answer:

Given the low sampling variability, the average annual salary for the other group of the business school graduates is most likely to be close to $96,000. Thus, extreme values, significant higher or lower than $96,000, are less likely.

Explanation:

In the domain of statistics, when the sampling variability is low, it means that most of the samples drawn from a population will have averages (means) that are close to the population mean. The data from the samples will be clustered around a single value.

In this context, given that the average salary of one group was $96,000, the salaries of the other groups are also likely to be around this value given the low sampling variability. Therefore, an average annual salary that is significantly higher or lower than $96,000 for another group would be least likely.

By using the concept of sampling variability, we could reasonably predict that extremes, such as $40,000 or $150,000, would be highly unlikely as average salaries for the other groups if the business school graduates' salaries are distributed normally and the sampling variability is indeed low.

A) How long does it take for it to rotate 225 degrees?

B) How long does it take to rotate 9π radians?

C) The diameter of the Earth is approximately 7920 miles. How far will a point on the equator rotate in 2 hours?

Answers

Answer:

A)

15 hours

B)

108 hours

C)

2074.29 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Under the assumption the earth is a perfect circle, then in one complete rotation about its axis ( 24 hours) the Earth will cover 360 degrees or 2π radians.

A)

In every 24 hours the earth rotates through 360 degrees ( a complete rotation). We are required to determine the length of time it will take the Earth to rotate through 225 degrees. Let x be the duration it takes the earth to rotate through 225 degrees, then the following proportions hold;

(24/360) = (x/225)

solving for x;

x = (24/360) * 225 = 15 hours

B)

In 24 hours the earth rotates through an angle of 2π radians (a complete rotation) . We are required to determine the length of time it will take the Earth to rotate through 9π radians. Let x be the duration it takes the earth to rotate through 9π radians, then the following proportions hold;

(24/2π radians) = (x/9π radians)

Solving for x;

x = (24/2π radians)*9π radians = 108 hours

C)

If the diameter of the earth is 7920 miles, then in a day or 24 hours a point on the equator will rotate through a distance equal to the circumference of the Earth. Using the formula for the circumference of a circle;

circumference = 2*π*R = π*D

                         = 7920*3.142

                         = 24891.43 miles

Therefore a point on the equator covers a distance of 24891.43 miles in 24 hours. This will imply that the speed of the earth is approximately;

(24891.43miles)/(24 hours) = 1037.14 miles/hr

The distance covered by the point in 2 hours will thus be;

1037.14 * 2 = 2074.29 miles

B. 10

EXPLANATION

We need to find the value of x first.

It was given that the perimeter of triangle XYZ is 24.

This means that:

XY+YZ+XZ=24

we substitute the expression in terms of x to get;

[tex](5x - 1) + (13 - x) = 24[/tex]

This implies that

[tex]5x - x = 24 - 13 + 1[/tex]

[tex]4x = 12[/tex]

Divide both sides by 4 to get;

[tex]x = 3[/tex]

|WY|=|ZX|=13-3=10

Answer:

WY = 10 units

Step-by-step explanation:

From the figure we can see a rectangle WXYZ.

Diagonals of rectangle are equal.

It is given that, Perimeter of triangle XYZ = 24

XY + YZ = 5x - 1 and XZ = 13 - x

To find the value of x

Perimeter of ΔXYZ = XY + YZ + XZ

24 = 5x - 1 + 13 - x

4x + 12 = 24

4x = 12

x = 12/4 = 3

x = 3

To find the value of WY

We have WY = XZ

XZ = 13 - x

 = 13 - 3 = 10

Therefore WY = XZ = 10 units

which of the following is the conjugate of a complex number with 2 as the real part and -8i as the imaginary part

Answers

The conjugate of the complex number 2 - 8i is 2 + 8i, found by changing the sign of the imaginary part from negative to positive.

The conjugate of a complex number is found by changing the sign of the imaginary part.

For a complex number with a real part of 2 and an imaginary part of -8i, the complex number is represented as 2 - 8i. To find its conjugate, we change the sign of the imaginary part, resulting in 2 + 8i.

The general form of a complex number is a + bi, where a is the real part and bi is the imaginary part.

The conjugate is then written as a - bi. Therefore, if we have the complex number z = 2 - 8i, the conjugate, denoted as [tex]\( \overline{z} \)[/tex], is 2 + 8i.

Its genre lies under children's adventure short stories.A mongoose named Rikki was caught in a flood that took him far from his home. A family rescued and took him into their home. The cobras living in the family's garden disliked Rikki, and try to scare him away. Since the snakes' original plan did not work, they try attacking Rikki and the family. While Rikki's friends did help him, he did do most of the work getting rid of the evil snakes and saving both the family and the garden.The setting takes place at Teddys familys property. Teddy and his family were the ones who found and saved Rikki, and later welcomed him into their home.Most of the story, there is a suspenseful mood. You don't know what will happen next with all of the action and adventure happening. Once the conflict is resovled and the characters or readers learn the lesson, there is a happy and content mood. There is peace within the home and garden between the owners and animals.The author's tone within the story is serious and a bit scary. The author wanted to make the reader feel fearful of what would happen next. However, sometimes the author would write lightheartedly to show that Rikki is loving and playful when with Teddy's family.One event in the story "Rikki Tikki Tavi" that I found interesting was when Nag and Nagaina were plotting how to get rid of Teddy's family and Rikki. Not only was it intense since these were important characters, but because the author made it seem as if the antagonists were going to get the happy ending. Nag and Nagaina had planned well, but didn't think of a "plan B" in case someone were to try and interfere with their plan. The scene was full of suspense and probably had a selected few readers on the edge of their seats.Some themes I interpreted from the story are courage, bravery, and loyalty. Rikki's courage was stronger than his fear. Rikki stayed brave when fighting the cobras. Rikki remained loyal to the garden animals and Teddy's family the entire time he was fighting for their lives. Rikki only fought when needed, and was prepared when doing so.Though it was a short story, I highly recommend "Rikki Tikki Tavi" by Rudyard Kipling to those who enjoy the adventure and action genres. Despite being labelled as children's liturature, I believe many people of varying ages will enjoy reading this book. Even if you may not like the story, you can suggest it to someone you know who might.
